Expansion for SCX Group

28th January 2011

The SCX Group is pleased to announce further exciting business expansion plans.

The expansion will result in Street CraneXpress being split into two new companies enabling them to have their own, unique identity within their respective industries. The two divisions will be known as Street CraneXpress and SCX Special Projects.

Street CraneXpress has recently undergone a period of unprecedented growth in its two key business divisions;Crane & Hoist and Special Projects.

Crane & Hoist provide overhead crane maintenance, servicing, modernisation and spare parts as well as the installation of new hoists and lifting equipment for a wide range of commercial mechanical handling applications.

With a focus on preventative maintenance and the introduction of Condition Monitoring, Crane & Hoist has built up an impressive portfolio of blue chip clients throughout the UK.

Special Projects was formed in the early 90's to provide engineering solutions to the more complex and challenging opportunities that were developing in the wider arena of automated systems, moving structures, building access and the nuclear decommissioning sectors.

Some of the higher profile projects include the retractable roof over Centre Court at Wimbledon and the façade access and maintenance equipment for Sir Norman Foster's iconic London Skyscraper, 30 St Mary Axe, otherwise known as 'The Gherkin'.

Special Projects has also provided automated and semi automated handling solutions for nuclear decommissioning applications and has recently won its first major contract in the Waste to Energy market.

“The diverse operating requirements needed for these two divisions, along with our continued strong business growth has resulted in us taking the decision to form two separate companies,” said Simon Eastwood, Managing Director of SCX Group.

Simon added: “Creating two separate companies will allow us to capitalise on our strong market position. It will also allow the specialisation of the administration, support and infrastructure functions within both businesses, which is exactly what is required to provide the top level customer support demanded in the market today.”
